Sometimes those precious vacation days are few and far between, and what does that mean, precisely? Yes, that you need to make the most of your days off work! With all the day-to-day stress it’s all too easy to stay in and idly binge-watch some Netflix when what you actually need is some adventure and relaxation!
Luckily, we’ve already thought of that and present to you a list of things to do on your day off – we’ve tried to make sure that you’ll be able to think of your own ideas, too! Aren’t we the best?! At least we’re up there with action-packed vacation days – which is what you’ll learn all about if you keep reading!
Pro Tip: Whatever you do, don’t forget to spend as much time as you possibly can with friends. We are nothing without relationships, so make sure to nurture yours!
Going away and leaving everything behind for just a little while is one of the best ways to feel that you’ve made the most out of your time off, and you can go anywhere – as long as you’re back in the office on time!
A day doesn’t seem like a lot of time, does it?! However, you’d be surprised how much you can fit into a day off, especially when you’re sticking somewhat local. Most of the time, it’s just a matter of thinking a little outside the box and perhaps a little outside your comfort zone! Go to a theme park, look up what kind of adrenaline-filled adventures you can try (rock climbing is our current favorite) and search for odd things – perhaps there’s a two-headed snake in the area? Go have a look!
If you’re committed to making the most of your day, then you can get a little extra time if you plan to stay the night somewhere other than home. Find a cozy hotel, perhaps with a spa and make the most your day, the only downside might be getting up a little earlier the next day to get to work on time. Again, think outside the box with more exciting overnight experiences like a murder mystery night or staying in a haunted castle – and, of course, the old favorite which has become such a classic; camping.
Whichever corner of our lush globe you call your home, you’re bound to find a whole bunch of exciting things going on not too far away. It could be tattoo conventions, dog shows, all sorts of festivals, or even courses and classes you could take – haven’t you always wanted to learn how to crochet or make your own concrete planters?! The internet is packed with this kind of information, so you’d better hit that search engine!
Pro Tip: You’d be surprised how many events you’ll find on apps like Meetup. Both fun, weird and wonderful!
There’s no need to get into a car or onto a train to have the best day off when you can find so many exciting adventures in your back yard! Fill up your day with the best activities, and finish it off with a long, delicious meal. We recommend a barbecue.
Especially if you spend a lot of your time inside, getting out and about and taking in the magnificent nature (whether it’s fields, mountains or a city park) around you does wonders for any stressed out – or bored – mind. Go for long walks, dust off your old bike and give it some action, or do other things like swimming, playing football (it doesn’t matter who wins!), or some archery – or just watch the clouds float by! And in case of rain: dance in it!
Being a tourist in your hometown is so underrated; it’s a fab way to finally do all those things you never got around to, like visit that castle you’ve seen a thousand times from a distance or other touristy things that you’d typically think are rather silly. Museums are cool, did you know that? Should you disagree, there are loads of other things to do – check out your local tourism office, or simply keep your eyes open for posters and ads!
If there are organized scavenger hunts in your city or town then great, go on one! If not, make one happen! Send all your friends out on a mission to come back with pieces of this or photos of that – you can even do it yourself if no one’s free! The important thing is to have fun, to do and see things you tend to forget about and to win. Hang on, win? No, just enjoy it, will you?!
There’s no need to leave the city, your house, or even the couch to have a rewarding, relaxing day. As long as you don’t feel any musts or that you’re not making the most of your day, anything goes!
Whether you feel like you’ve neglected your surf board for too long or would like to try something completely new, dedicate a whole, long day to your hobbies! Finally, finish that book that’s been giving you impatient looks from the bedside table, start building your own table, or tend to your leafy greens – speaking of that, don’t forget to do some cooking! Make a whole meal from scratch, using new ingredients and flavors, or make a big, fluffy, scrumptious cake. Or bread! There’s so, so much and it’s all delicious!
You can do this at a spa (who’s up for a spa day, anyone?) but you can also do it all from the comfort of your own home. Have a hot, serene bath with oils and bath bombs, make a face and a hair mask yourself – or use your favorite products! – and let go of all your tension, both in your muscles and in your mind. Yoga can be done from home, and if the weather allows you can spend some quality time with our beloved star. If it’s hard to relax, try turning your phone off.
Wow, did anyone else get all calm from reading that last paragraph or was that just me? Either way, there are tons of rewarding ways to spend a day off; don’t hesitate to let us know what you prefer to do!
