Our beloved globe is teeming with awesome people who are saying yes all over the place, and Jarryd (he usually jazzes it up and goes by Jazza) Salem is definitely one of them. He and his better half Alesha (Lesh) are the masterminds and adventurers behind Nomadasaurus, Australia’s top travel blog.
Jazza started out as an Aussie ski bum (yes, they do exist) and has since been crisscrossing most continents, taking awesomely incredible photos and meeting equally incredible people. He’s kindly complied to share some of his wisdom with us, hoping to inspire others to fill their lives to the brim with adventures – but first, let’s have a little peek at his own ones, shall we!
For starters, let’s list some of the animals he’s hung out with. Because animals are cool too. Jazza’s met reindeer in Mongolia, kayaked with humpbacks in Antarctica, gotten photobombed by a llama at Machu Picchu, played with elephants in Chiang Mai and viewed yaks in Tajikistan – to name a few.
He (and his camera) have quite possibly seen every single color that the sky can reflect, he’s visited countless waterfalls, one year he celebrated his birthday on top of a temple in Bagan (yes, there was cake), and he’s also met Madam Tham, Phong Nha’s first female pilot. Oh, and once a little elephant seal did a little snort on his camera. And, there were penguins.
An awesome little sidenote is that Jazza has paid a visit to not one, not two, not three, but four of our least known wonders of the world – that we know of! We won’t spoil anything, but one of them is the Road to Heaven, so very impressive!
Speaking of impressive, there’s not a lot that scares this guy (nor Lesh, we might add): he’s cycled down the Deathroad in Bolivia, camped on the Wall of China and dived in Mexico’s cenotes – here’s a post about that, btw!
But enough about that because here he is, the man of the hour: Jazza Salem!
Traveling the world, taking beautiful pictures, making videos of our adventures and writing stories on our blog.
I went on a family vacation to the US when I was 16, and it was my first time leaving Australia. It planted the seed of curiosity, so when I was 20 I moved to Canada with a working holiday visa to work a winter season. That was nearly 12 years ago, and I’m still out there exploring the world.
Perhaps I’m different in that I never had a little voice saying it can’t be done. I was young, stupid and just wanted to travel. My family were supportive, so there was nothing holding me back. I just did what I wanted to do.
Knowing that I’m extremely lucky to be living the life I have, and that even when things are tough, I have it better than most of the world’s population.
Say yes more.
– We didn’t ask Jazza to write this, honest! He clearly understands our mission!
Cameras – I can never be found without them. They help me document my adventures around the world.
Get a job, any job, and start saving money. Then when you have a few thousand dollars head overseas with a working holiday visa. Get a job abroad so you have an income coming in, and then see where life takes you.
Meeting my wife, Alesha, who loves travel and adventure just as much as I do and continually inspires me.
No major setbacks at this stage. Fingers crossed for the future!
It seems like the opposite of travel, but yes to hiring more people and expanding the business, as our company is what allows us to live a life on the road.
You only have one life. Just remember that next time you think about putting life on hold.
Camera gear and SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
– Pretty handy when these are the lifeblood of their content and income!
What’s on your bucket list that doesn’t involve travel?
Into The Wild. Can relate to the desire to escape it all and follow a dream.
Quite the adventurer, don’t you think? A great example of someone who’s making the most of life. A true adventurer. Keep saying yes to life Jazza!
