The first step of any journey is often the hardest part and can seem positively impossible to do, and that’s exactly why we’re here: to help you with the whats and hows of it all. Doing things and gaining new experiences is the center of saying yes to life – but what things, and how on earth is it done? That’s what we’re about to find out!
Take a moment or two to think about what it really is that you want to do. Do you want to explore the world and go on amazing adventures? Or perhaps do less, stop rushing and spending all of your energy on others rather than yourself? Change doesn’t have to be big and immediate, you’re in charge and can control your own pace!
If you’re yearning for excitement, thrills and new, superfun experiences then traveling is an obvious choice: the world has everything you can imagine times 10, so start looking right away! We have loads of great destinations all over the globe – great for any traveler. You can travel the world in a year or do a weekend away in a new city – it’s completely up to you.
The sweet spot. This is what the majority of our YES life falls within. Those experiences that are not big enough to change your life, but are significant enough to make your life that much more fulfilled. Chase your hobbies, find new hobbies, check-off those easier to achieve bucket list items or just make the most of your weekend. These goals aren’t supposed to be easy, but then again, they won’t break your bank or take all your time either!
Starting small is always a wise choice, as is keeping up with small YES moments to keep your life feeling well lived. Learn something new on an evening, try something new like an improv comedy night (we’re doing this one). Why not skip Netflix one night a week and spend some time with your loved ones – have a romantic date night – or just pampering yourself. Because you’re worth it.
It’s all well and good to have a list of exciting, new things to do, but how do you make sure you actually get up and do them? One tip is to include them into your schedule – set an hour a day away for reading, reserve every other weekend for fun trips or make sure that you go see a play or some live music at least one night a week. We have lots of tips for creating good habits that stick, if you feel like you could need a hand.
Yep, this is a vital part of change, so it’s gonna pop up both here and there. Even if what you want is to travel the world, there’s nothing wrong with starting small and do a couple of trips before you feel ready to plan for the big adventure. If you want to perfect that four-course dinner that your partner really loves, do it one dish – or even one step – at a time. It might seem like an obvious tip, but it’s easy to get discouraged if you feel far from where you want to be.
A common way to think is you should focus on your career now, and then do whatever it is that you really want to do later. It might make sense from a financial perspective, but success should not be measured in just money and career – having great relationships with family and friends and enjoying life is as – if not more – important. Life might not wait if you put it on hold.
Another mental obstacle that stops many a person to do what they really want is fearing what other people might think. Will you have people shaking their heads in disappointment, or perhaps get sympathetic but unwanted looks? Probably not. And if you do, does it really matter? Isn’t it better to grab life by the horns and do what truly makes you happy? We’d say the answer is a strong yes.
You probably know that starting small is one of the main keys to getting what and where you want by now, right? Well, sometimes you have to start really small and make sure that you have the basics covered before focusing on the other changes. What basics are we referring to, you ask? It’s the basic ones: food, sleep, exercise and self love. Yep. Those are part of the foundation you need to build your new life upon.
Pro Tip: Stop planning. Start doing. Action is the most powerful tool, because just like Pringles; Once you pop, you can’t stop!
If you’re thinking that ‘wow doing that is going to be boring’, then you’re absolutely right – if you make it boring. You don’t have to go on a diet to eat well, just figure out how to cook vegetables and check the amount of food you’re eating. You don’t have to go to bed at eight o’clock every night, just try to sleep at roughly the same time every night. And for exercise, there’s everything from sword fighting to hiking across America.
Starting with the basics is a great way to start forming habits that can propel you into the YES life. And when you’re ready to hit the ground running we have experiences and destinations all over the world for you to start checking off your bucket list.
Whatever change it is you want to achieve it can be hard and scary to get there, especially in the beginning. If you need a little pep talk or want to share your progress, don’t hesitate to let us know – the comments section is always available!
