If weekend getaways are not on your radar yet, then now is the time to pay them some well-deserved attention because they are pretty damn awesome.
What so great about them, then? Well, that’s what you’re gonna find out, and it gets better: we have lots of posts on how to get the most out of 48 hour or 3 day stays in various amazing destinations! So, you ready to get convinced that weekend getaways are the best thing ever? Swell, let’s go!
Pro Tip: Make your own little weekend getaway bucket list with all the places and things you’ve wanted to experience but never gotten around to do!
Wherever you are, city, mountains, beach, suburbs or deep forest, getting some new sights, smells and other sensations can do wonders if you think you might have been bitten by the stress bug or lost some of your inspiration, motivation or creativity. It’ll give you a whole new perspective – and who knows, maybe some great photos!
Actually taking a break, a real, no-phone (unplugging everything for a bit is strongly recommended), no-responsibilities, a break will allow you to recharge those over-worked batteries and help you best both anxiety and depression. Just imagine what that’ll do for your productivity! Most likely a lot. Which also leaves you a lot of free time. Just saying.
Depending on where you’re going and what you want to get out of your sweet weekend getaway you might not have to really plan anything at all – if your main goal is to relax, for example, you’ll just have to sort out transportation, accommodation and some fab food. And coffee. And ice cream. Of course.
If you, on the other hand, are looking to see, do, taste and feel as much as possibly possible, you still won’t have to plan that much – it’s only a couple of days! You can still fit so much fun and excitement and awesomeness into that little space of time – it might very well feel like almost a week! Also, if you have kids or dogs, finding a sitter will be a breeze.
Well, I’m sure you can find a way to spend a whole lot of money in a couple of days, but spending the weekend away can also be dirt cheap, promise. Even if you choose a destination somewhat far away, you’ll most likely be able to get train and plane tickets for peanuts, and there are so many free or cheap exciting and fun things to do both in the city and in the countryside. Let your imagination go wild!
Even cheaper options include road trips, hikes or biking. You’ll pretty much only have to pay for food if you bring a tent (or sleep under the stars!) and if camping isn’t quite your cup of tea, you’ll probably find a cheap hostel or a great Airbnb accommodation – or perhaps even a lovely, old-school B&B! Either way, it won’t break your bank, and your luggage will be relatively light, which is brilliant for flights.
Since our rather remarkable globe is filled to the brim with corners, nooks and crannies, there’s always something new to see, wherever you happen to be. Your home town, somewhere in the desert, during a worldwide journey, doesn’t matter. There’s always something. And it doesn’t have to be new to you either, revisiting favorite places is pretty rad too.
In fact, doing small trips like this will teach you a lot about what your adventure, travel and chill-out preferences are, which will be invaluable information when you’re planning your next big trip – not only will it give you lots of inspiration, you’ll also know what you don’t like and won’t have to spend both time and money to figure that out! If that’s not catching two birds with one net, I don’t know what is.
We all know the feeling, when you’re back from a fantastic trip and the next one seems like a tiny blip on the horizon. It kind of sucks. The cure? Weekend getaways, of course! They’re not only fun to plan, but they’ll definitely give you the travel fix that you so desperately need. Who needs drugs when you have adventures, right?!
It really is the perfect way not to spend your savings or precious vacation days but still get all the fun, surprising experiences that you can’t wait to have. Even if you just do it once a month, that’s still a dozen awesome mini-cations (yes, that’s a word now) each year! You might get through half your bucket list in just a few months.
What, stay at home? Surely that’s a typo or some kind of brain freeze? Actually, it’s not, hear us out: you don’t have to leave your home to leave all the stress and routines behind. Weekend getaways can be as much as getting away mentally as physically, and while that might be easier on a different location it can still be done from home!
Try dedicating a whole weekend to something that you feel that you’re kind of neglecting day to day. It can be catching up with old friends, spending the entire time painting, learning a new language, or in the garden; or you can just turn everything off and bathe in the disconnected glory of silence. Do some reading, or have the longest hot bath you’ve had in years. We’re not that crazy, after all!
Do you feel inspired and excited to start your new trendy weekend getaway routine? We hope so, because we definitely are! Just remember to be flexible and not let small obstacles stop you, and you’ll have the best of times! Oh, and if you have any really awesome weekend gems, please share them with us!
